CEO

Anthony G. Capuano was named Chief Executive Officer in February of 2021. Previously, Capuano was group president, global development, design and operations services. In that role, Capuano was responsible for leading global development and design efforts and overseeing the company’s global operations discipline. During Capuano’s tenure leading global development, the company grew from just over 3,200 properties in early 2009 to more than 7,600 properties by year-end 2020. In addition, Capuano has overseen the growth and globalization of Marriott’s development pipeline to 498,000 rooms as of Dec. 31, 2020, with more than half of the pipeline representing projects outside of the U.S. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Capuano has led Marriott’s work on its Commitment to Clean initiative. Mr. Capuano began his career at Marriott in 1995 as part of the Market Planning and Feasibility team. Between 1997 and 2005, he led Marriott’s full service development efforts in the Western United States and Canada. In 2008, his responsibilities expanded to include North America, the Caribbean and Latin America. In 2009, he assumed global development responsibility. His professional career began at Laventhol & Horwath’s Boston-based Leisure Time Advisory Group. He later joined Kenneth Leventhal & Co., a hospitality consulting group in Los Angeles. Mr. Capuano earned a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University in Hotel Administration. He is an active member of the Cornell Society of Hotelmen, a member of The Cornell School of Hotel Administration Dean’s Advisory Board, and a member of the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s IREFAC Council. Additionally, Mr. Capuano participates on The Urban Land Institute, Marriott’s Committee for Excellence, the company’s Global Diversity and Inclusion Council, and Marriott’s Global Green Council.

Chief Global Officer, Global Operations

Erika L. Alexander is the Chief Global Officer, Global Operations, for Marriott International. As the chief executive responsible for hotel operations globally, she leads Marriott’s efforts to create, deploy and sustain global hotel systems and programs that meet the ever-evolving needs of travelers and deliver on the promise of Marriott BonvoyTM for Elite guests. The disciplines under Erika’s leadership: Food + Beverage; Hotel Systems; Marriott Bonvoy Operations; Meetings + Events; Program + Brand Operations; Procurement; Sustainability + Supplier Diversity and Quality. In addition, Erika oversees the day-to-day operations of Marriott’s U.S. + Canada Lodging Services organization. Erika’s 31-year career at Marriott comprises a unique path across multiple disciplines that has shaped and defined her holistic approach to hotel operations. Erika has been named an International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Fellow; and was a member of the 2011 class of Leadership Atlanta. In addition, she was recognized by the Atlanta Business League as one of the Top 100 Influential Women in Atlanta and by the YWCA as a Corporate Woman of Achievement. Erika is also a past recipient of Marriott’s Diversity and Inclusion Trailblazer Award. Jim Scholefield was made Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIDO) on February 24 2020. In this role, Scholefield is responsible for leading all aspects of the company’s information technology and digital strategies. Most recently, Scholefield was Chief Information and Digital Officer at Merck & Co., one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies. He led Merck’s information technology and digital strategy to drive efficiencies, strengthen the security of the infrastructure and support the company’s growth. Satya Anand was appointed President for Europe, Middle East & Africa in October 2020 and is accountable for developing and managing Marriott's hotel portfolio in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which comprises of 25 brands in 75 countries and territories. Mr. Anand began his career with Marriott International in 1988 and most recently served as Chief Operations Officer, Luxury & Southern Europe and Global Design EMEA from July 2016, where he was responsible for the overall operations of the luxury portfolio in Europe and the complete portfolio of brands in Southern Europe as well as leading the Global Design team. Prior to this, Mr. Anand was Europe’s Chief Financial Officer for four years and held Area Vice President roles for Western and Central Europe respectively as well as various Cluster General Manager, operations and finance positions both on and above property. Educated primarily in Bangalore, Mr. Anand holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Bangalore’s MES College of Commerce (1982-1985) and in 1988 completed his Diploma in Hotel and Tourism Management from the Institute of Tourism & Hotel Management in Semmering, Austria. Brian J. Brian assumed the role in January 2021 and leads the region’s business priorities to achieve shareholder value by focusing on associate talent development, customer engagement, owner preference, and by prioritizing processes that elevate brand experiences with exceptional operational excellence. A 30-year lodging veteran, his career has always been driven by the belief that the ‘customer is king.’ He previously held a wide variety of roles that encompassed, Brand Management, Digital, Distribution, the Global Sales, Customer Engagement Centers, Revenue Strategy and Planning and Services. Brian is a distinguished speaker and panelist at many industry conferences and summits and has been a featured contributor for USA Today, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Time. He was named one of the 25 Most Influential People in the meetings industry by Successful Meetings and is a 2018 recipient of Fortune Partners Top Service Award for his leadership in customer recognition management. Mr. Menon is a key member of the continent’s senior leadership team and functions as the operational leader for the region. Across APEC, he oversees more than 410 operating hotels & resorts under 21 unique brands. Prior to being promoted to President in October 2019, Mr. Menon served as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for APEC from March 2015 through September 2019. Peggy Fang Roe, Global Officer, Customer Experience, Loyalty & New Ventures, oversees the company’s award-winning loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy, as well as the development of new business initiatives, and the Marriott customer experience. In that role, Peggy was focused on building the customer base, adapting Marriott International brands and loyalty program to the local market, managing $100 million in sales, digital and marketing spend, guiding a salesforce of 5000+ associates, and driving the company’s distribution and pricing strategy. Peggy also led the sales and marketing integration of Marriott and Starwood in the Asia Pacific region and most recently provided the business leadership that has resulted in the Marriott International joint venture with Alibaba. Peggy is also passionate about education and supporting the development of women. She co-founded the Marriott Women in Leadership initiative in Asia Pacific in 2014 and is a board member of the Hong Kong chapter of the Asian University for Women. Peggy also serves on the Board Committee for Advancement at Hong Kong International School. Kathleen (“Leeny”) K. Oberg was appointed as Marriott’s Chief Financial Officer, effective January 1, 2016. Most recently, Ms. Oberg was the Chief Financial Officer for The Ritz-Carlton since 2013, where she contributed significantly to the brand’s performance, growth, and organizational effectiveness. Ron Harrison serves as Global Design Officer for Marriott’s Global Design, responsible for overseeing company architectural and interior design, construction management, and procurement related services for all acquisition, conversion, renovation and new construction projects. Mr. Harrison, who joined Marriott International in 1982, leads multiple teams within A&C, working with full service, extended stay and select service Marriott products, both domestically and internationally. Prior to his role as Global Design Officer, Mr. Harrison served as Senior Vice President of the Full Service Domestic Design and Project Management Program for A&C, responsible for the design and construction of new hotel products and concepts, conversions of existing lodging products to Marriott, JW, Renaissance, Edition, and Autograph brands. He also was responsible for ongoing renovations of existing full service properties throughout the domestic United States and Canada. Earlier in his career, Mr. Harrison served as the President of Marriott Lodging, Canada, leading the operations of all Marriott hotels and resorts throughout Canada. His hotel operational experience includes serving as General Manager at the flagship JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, as well as in general manager positions at various hotels in the United States. Mr. Harrison holds an MBA from the University of Washington, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University.
