Barnes & Noble Education is pivoting its operations from being a legacy bookstore retailer to being an infrastructure layer for inclusive programs that aim at making educational materials more affordable. This business model comes with recurring revenue, higher sales volume, and more predictable pricing. In fact, this is the part of the business that is currently holding up BNED's growth. But the current sales multiple still prices BNED like a legacy retailer, showing no appreciation of this shift. I expect the mispricing to correct once the financial outlook further improves.
Barnes & Noble Education is rated buy, as current valuation appears to price in a guidance miss despite contracted fall enrollment being up 25%.
